Frequently asked questions about labels and ribbons
What is the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels?
Direct thermal labels have a heat-sensitive surface and need no ribbon. They suit short-life labels such as shipping labels. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon and produces prints that withstand light, heat, abrasion and chemicals for longer.
Which ribbon should I choose?
The ribbon is chosen according to the label material and environment. Wax suits paper labels, wax/resin more durable labels on paper and synthetics, and resin synthetic materials exposed to chemicals, heat or weather.
Should I choose paper or synthetic labels?
Paper labels cover most short-life indoor needs. Synthetic labels (PP, PE or polyester) are chosen when the label must withstand moisture, cold, abrasion, chemicals or outdoor use.
Which labels work in freezers and laboratories?
Freezers and laboratories use specialty labels such as Zebra 8100T CryoCool and 8000T Lab Resist with a resin ribbon. What matters is that the label is applied at the right temperature and withstands the conditions throughout its life.
What roll and core size do I need?
Desktop printers usually use a 25 mm core and industrial printers a 76 mm core. The maximum outer roll diameter depends on the printer model – check the printer specifications or ask us.
What do ink-in and ink-out mean?
They indicate which side of the ribbon the ink is on. The printer model determines which type is needed, so check this before ordering ribbons.
Why choose genuine Zebra labels?
Genuine Zebra labels and ribbons are tested together with Zebra printers. This gives consistent print quality, readable barcodes and less wear on the printhead.
Can I order labels in a custom size?
Yes. In addition to standard sizes, we supply labels in custom sizes and materials, including pre-printed labels. Tell us about the application and printer, and we will find the right solution.
